Chapter 4

Given it’s so late at night, the only thing open is a knock-off diner trying to compete with a nearby packed Waffle House.

For whatever reason, the local Waffle House here is always packed, no matter the time of day. It’s a type of sanctuary for us Floridians. Southerners in general, but especially if you’re Floridian. It’s the most reliable way to know if you should evacuate before a hurricane.

If they’re open, you have a chance of riding the storm just fine or with easy to repair damage.

If they close… run.

Other than the cook, waitress, and a drunk guy at the far end of the diner, we’re alone.

“So, the Illuminati…” I tell the two across the table from me after the waitress leaves with our food orders.

“We’re not the bad guys.” Emeric tells me.

I see this isn’t the first time he’s had this conversation.

“We try keeping order.” Lily sips on her hot coffee.

Emeric grabs five packs of sugar from the sweetener dish, “mostly from Outsiders and rogue Ascended.”

“Fair enough,” I tell them. “But hold up,” I point my finger at Emeric as I lean in. “You said Outsiders. That was on the scroll.”

“Yes, Outsiders. Interdimensional or parallel dimensional beings that come to our dimension. We’re not sure yet.” Emeric says.

“That’s the official definition.” Lily announces.

“Yes,” Emeric nods and dumps the sugar packets into his own coffee. “We refer to Outsiders as that, and any alien from our dimension.”

Breathing in, I fold my arms and lean back.

I’m assuming he’s referring to that Talian Empire from the lore video. However, that doesn’t mean they’re the only outfit in the galaxy. There has to be other factions if you’re at war.

He didn’t mention game though.
